You know what I love? A fresh take on a well-trodden path. You're like an anti-self-help self helper. While everyone is parroting "gEt oUt oF yOuR cOmFoRt zOnE" you've broken this down so bloody beautifully and it's given me a ton of food for thought on a few projects I've been mulling lately - and whether I was mulling them for the right reasons.

Love love love this.

This is great, a nice blend of "here's what happened to me and here's what I did" and some actionable advice. With so much information coming at us constantly, yes, it is vital to reset often and make sure you're pursuing the things that actually excite you!

I have a few questions:

Where was the picture at the top of the post taken?

Have you ever worked as a counselor?

I'd love to read a post on the learning to ride a motorcycle... maybe you already wrote that.

(I'd just like to note also that at this point in my Substack journey, it's a real treat to "know" everyone in the comments here, I'm not sure how SS does that, or maybe we are all waaaaayyyy too active here. probably both, ok happy wednesday. )

Thanks Ian!!

The pic is at Panna Meena Ka Kund, the step well outside Jaipur, India. It’s beautiful.

I’ve not worked as a counsellor, I did my diploma to add to my volunteering I was doing with at-risk kids years back.

Haven’t written the motorcycle post yet, but I will! (It’s a bit traumatic lol, but that’s what we do here!)

(To your side note - isn’t it great? I limit my time on all apps these days, for my sanity. So it’s so nice to have a handful of people with whom I regularly interact, I love it! Glad you’re here.) 🧡

Ma'am please do not slice me up with your credentials for saying this (🙏🏼😂) as I love your writing and insights (💛) but if getting out of my comfort zone for something I really wanted felt like a dream come true I'd be living in dreamland 17 lifetimes ago. 🥲 Either that, OR, I don't know what I really desire. Which is a perfectly plausible situation. 😂 Anywho. Thanks for making me think about this from a different viewpoint. 🙌

GETTING READY TO SLICE!! [makes whooshy slicing noises]. Just kidding, this is a safe space. Even for those who DISAGREE! 🤣 Happy to give you food for thought, but if it turns out you decide I’m full of bollocks, that’s OK too! 🧡💔😢🙈

Getting out of my comfort zone involves, per the subject matter of your last article, my severe aversion to Pit Toilets. Who devised these things?? There be dysentery lurking in there.

I like your framing on "getting out of your comfort zone," if you're more excited about it than worried (about the pit toilets) you will really actually enjoy whatever the thing is. I've found this to be exceptionally true.

Avoiding dysentery is definitely a valid reason for staying IN the comfort zone though, for real! 🤣 But, if getting over your aversion to pit toilets is really the goal, I suggest living with a chemical toilet for a few weeks, followed by a composting toilet. You’ll be LOVING a pit toilet! 😆
